Key Points
- Customs data and B/L instructions are different, but key shipment facts must not conflict.
- Regulatory conditions, inspection, DG documents and certificates should be checked before booking.
- The later documents are confirmed, the higher the cost of fixing errors near cut-off.
1. Common export customs documents
A normal China export declaration may involve packing list, commercial invoice, contract, customs authorization, declaration elements and HS Code information. Exact requirements vary by commodity, control conditions, trade mode and port rules.
2. Do not mix B/L details with customs documents
The bill of lading supports transportation and cargo release, while customs documents support declaration. They are not the same document set, but shipper, consignee, commodity, package count, weight and destination should remain consistent.
3. Special cargo should be identified early
DG cargo, chemicals, battery products, powders, liquids, food-contact goods, wooden products and inspection-controlled cargo should be declared before booking. Discovering missing documents near cut-off can lead to sailing changes or extra costs.
